School at SU
I found myself moving to a new city and university in search of the career I always wanted, but I found myself growing in so many more ways than academically. I found the cohort style courses and clinical group placement to be instrumental in making friends and connections. Most professors enjoyed teaching, and their passion was visible in the classroom. While we had some hiccups during our year, I found it to be flying by, as evidenced by this being my final submission of the year! I came into SU with an idea of what it means to be a nurse, but talking with faculty and nurse preceptors has given me direction for what kind of nurse I aspire to be. I always gravitated towards healing the whole person, rather than the symptoms. For me this means taking the patients needs across the board into account such as safety, pain, anxiety, ability to pay, and generally taking my time to ensure quality care. Seattle U has only strengthened my resolve for that sentiment and how important it is to view patient care in that regard, both as a bedside RN and as a provider.
The City of Seattle (U)
The city of Seattle may be my favorite part about attending Seattle U. With the school being placed so centrally, I have been blessed to walk/bike to school and some clinical sites as well. Some would say I got “Urbanism Pilled”, but having to not rely on a car to go to school, work, and to have fun was a blessing I thought impossible. It made my move from Los Angeles seem like a no brainer the longer I stayed here. I even started work on a DNP project idea tying in the walkability of a area with health outcomes and lifespans. I heard horror stories about the rain and the Seattle freeze and thankfully I can say it was much better than expected. I never thought I would love not driving so much, but it has changed my life, and given me a lot more energy to “study” on the weekends and bond with classmates.
